Moonlit power station
In daylight the same view is much less dramatic…..
We only had a short way to go today but were meeting Carol, so got away around 10:30. Just half a mile downstream the Soar runs into the Trent, both rivers then dropping over the wide Thrumpton Weir.

We turned left, upstream, joining the main navigation, with Cranfleet Cut to the right and Trent Lock, up onto the Erewash Canal straight ahead.
Onto the wide, windswept waters of the Trent.
What a spot to have my own personal 2 minutes silence to pay tribute to those brave soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives to protect our way of life.
We came onto Sawley Cut up the left hand of the paired Sawley Locks, mooring up opposite Sawley Bridge Marina.
Carol arrived with her dog Sealy and a repaired alternator she’d had sorted for me, and spent an hour chatting before she had to head off.
Today has been a lot colder, with a brisk breeze from the east. No rain to speak of though, so that’s a bonus. Tomorrow we’re off up onto The Trent and Mersey Canal, intending to get to Weston Lock in the early afternoon.
As well as being Armistice Day, it’s also one of those dates where the day, month and year are the same. 11/11/11. This only happens 12 times a century, the next and last for 88 years is 12th December next year.
