We had a really pleasant day yesterday. The area is good for the animals and quiet, with good TV reception but poor mobile phone communications.

Sonja arrived about 17:00, and we got down to eating and drinking to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a very convivial evening.

It rained overnight, not too heavily but it must have been worse further up the Trent because the river had risen about a foot by 10:00. By lunchtime we’d gained another foot, so decided to go back up the lock to the relative security of the lock cut. We were a bit exposed to the weir stream where we were.

The mooring rapidly disappearing under water.
It was interesting turning at the entrance to the cut after ascending the lock, so we were facing the right way again, but soon we were safely moored on the high wall above the lock. We’ll wait it out here. The water continues to rise, we’re about 3’ above Friday’s level now. I’ve booked us out onto the tideway at Cromwell Lock for Tuesday morning, but we may have to postpone for a day or so. We’ll see how it goes.

I was catching up with the blog this morning, and kept getting interrupted by swans tapping on the window. We took pity on them and gave them some bread, they were working quite hard to stay on station against the current.
They were still hanging around at lunchtime. You can just see a pair of heads over the window sill.

This morning, Luxmotor “Actief” came up river from Newark. Another elderly Dutchman, she looks fit and well for being 82 years old. Come to think of it, that’s the same age as Margaret this year, and she’s fit and well too.
